#MirthMusicMon – House Plant Woes

4 Sep

I didn’t use to be that person.

I had plants for several years at a time.

Now, though, since moving into this house, with no good western facing windows and small eastern windows, it’s hard to keep them alive. Although, I recently got one in a pot small enough to set in the shallow sill of a western window, but then life got busy and the poor thing dried out one too many times. 😦

It’s been a struggle. If you remember I blogged about it a few years ago.

I really hope this isn’t permanent. House plants make me happy. 🙂

Thankfully, plants around here tend to last a little longer than implied in this funny video by Natalie Tran.

Her struggles with shuffling the cards had me laugh-snorting. 😀

Perhaps one day, after we move, or find a good place for a grow light, I will be able to have plants again. Until then, I will resist the temptation to take cuttings from the wonderful greenery at my grandmother’s apartment.

Are you a green thumb? Does anything and everything thrive and bloom in your care?

Or are you a Plant Serial Killer? Murderer of innocent, unsuspecting ferns and vines?

Let me know in the comments. Feel free to include your tips and/or excuses. lol

That’s it for my #MirthMusicMon contribution. If you would like to see more Mirth and Music Monday posts click HERE to be taken to the link-up.

That’s also where you’ll want to add your post URL if you should decide to join in the fun. 🙂

Your grandmother’s window faces east. No excuses on that score. Get some of that absorbent stuff they put in disposable diapers and mix it into your potting soil. Set an alarm on your phone or computer to remind you AND your husband that this is the day you water plants. Put a note beside the plants that says “These plants should be watered on Monday and Friday” to remind yourself – and others – that there is plan. Keep water by the plants – 2 liter soda bottles work well for this. Get some plant fertilizer spikes and use them – write that on the sign if you need to remember which month to add a new spike. Get a plant. They make us happy. If you really want a plant that makes you happy get some paperwhites in December – they grow so fast you spend all of January feeling perky… oh, yeah, until they bloom… and stink. But, hey, then you have a plant you are happy to kill!

Hahahahaha!!! That there is a plan. I actually have a diaper somewhere around here that Kathleen ripped the tags off of. We also have (if they haven’t been thrown out) some of those odd yarn plant hanger things. I wonder if Lonnie would mind putting a couple of those on hooks above the windows. Hmmm. Just yesterday Kathleen found a pair of terra cota pots that would be just the right size for 3 or 4 lettuce plants each. Perhaps romaine in one and spinach in the other. Oh, dear. This might be possible…

Hmm. I think this lady and I should go into business together. We could make a killing on killing indoor plants together. >.>

Heehee. It would take very little work, too, since they’d practically be ready for burial by the time UPS got them there. 😉

And what could be better than a high paying job that takes very little work? 😛
