Today somebody said the word ‘impossible’ within my hearing and all of a sudden the song from Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was on repeat in my head. So to get it out I will be depositing it into your head. hehehe
But first for the mirth! For that I have chosen a song called the Step Sisters Lament. It’s from the same play, it merely looks different because it’s from the ’65 production.

Yeah, I know it’s not Thanksgiving. What it is is exactly what I was looking for, so you know, whatever.

I know it’s kind of silly of me, but I hate it when people say something is impossible. There have been too many times when impossible has been disproved.
It was ‘impossible’ to pole vault any higher until someone re-imagined the jump and then the pole.
It was ‘impossible’ for the human body to handle speeds above a horse’s gallop, but we’ve gone fast enough to break the speed of sound and then some.
The idea of impossible kind of ticks me off.
Alright, time to step off the soap box.
But still! Argh!

I had never seen the 1965 version, but I love the version from the 90s (where the black queen and white king somehow managed to have a Latino son?). I was given a bootleg version of the new revival but got annoyed by the political sub-plot and stopped watching at the end of Act 1. I do love the magic in that number, though.

One of the theater groups I have worked with cast an Asian guy as a young Norwegian because he was the only option in our little town. If that wasn’t crazy enough the Norwegian woman his character was supposed to be courting was played by a woman in her fifties. No one was trying to make any statements other than it can be tough to cast a play in a small town. I realize that the show to which you refer was doing it on purpose and that kind of thing annoys me. I have nothing against interracial marriage – the Asian guy is now my son-in-law – but I don’t like being force fed political correctness.

The horses are incredible. I called my husband over when I first saw them and we watched that part a couple times. Me, filled with wonder, him, trying to figure out how they worked. lol
Yes, I think politics should be kept away from fairy tales. It takes away from the daydreaming. 🙂

Asian son. 🙂 I loved that element of it. 🙂 Interracial marriage and adoption in one go. Awesome. 😀 I never understood why so many people were weirded out by it.

Asian, my bad. I somehow had it in my head that he was Puerto Rican but I just looked him up and he is Filipino. I haven’t watched it in ages but back when I was 10 or 12 and watching it all the time adoption never even occurred to me, I just assumed this biologically-impossible thing had somehow happened along with all the other impossible things in the movie.

Ugh. For a while I had a medical condition that was only affordably treatable with partial fasting. I sympathize and hope you feel better really soon!!!

Great finds, Rose. That version of Impossible is outstanding. I love those two actresses doing the lament. That is the version I grew up with. I think I have muttered the “with very little trouble I could break her little arm” phrase a time or two.
My “impossible” for the day had better be getting the fuel pump and filter changed on my car at the busiest entrance to the hospital parking lot.

The 1965 version was the first ‘people’ version of Cinderella I saw. I must admit that it’s still kind of my favorite. Right after the (very young) Julie Andrews version. 🙂
Oh, goodness, that does sound rather impossible. I do hope that counted, perhaps for the rest of your week even.
